Mavis Amy Glass Sweeney

Mrs. Mavis Amy Glass Sweeney, age 89, passed away on Dec. 30, 2011. Mrs. Sweeney was raised and resided in Alabaster for over 75 years. She was born in Alabama on Jan. 9, 1922. She was the daughter to the late Mr. Forrest and Mrs. Vadie Irene Wilson Glass.

She was the last of the first members of Kingwood Church, formerly First Assembly of God of Alabaster, where she was the pianist in the early years of the church.
Mrs. Sweeney was predeceased by her husband, John R. Sweeney; daughter, Anja Nell Sweeney; son, John R. Sweeney Jr.; and one brother, Hermie Carl Glass.
Mrs. Sweeney is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Bowman (Noah) of Jemison; son, Warren D. Sweeney (Cathy) of Alabaster; sister, Faye Davis of Columbiana; sister, Janice Sparks (Robert) of Bessemer; brother, Dewey V. Glass (Sue) of Hoover; six grandchildren: Shawn Sweeney (Jennifer), LiAnn Farmer (John), Susan Wills (Wayne), Lacritia Futral (Matt), Noah Bowman Jr. (Sonya) and Nicholas Bowman; great-grandchildren, Anna and Torrie Meacham, Nekoma Sweeney, Kristen and John Wills, Joey Stroede and Zion Futral; and other family members and many friends.
The family received friends on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 from noon-2 p.m. at Charter Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at also the funeral home following at 2 p.m. Reverend Ron Cox, Reverend Mark Sims and Reverend Larry Jones officiated her services. Burial was in Elliottsville Cemetery in Alabaster.

Arrangements were under the direction of Charter Funeral Home.
