1890 Census Winnebago Co. Wis, gives his birthplace as Conn.
He first lived with his wife Betsey Shipley in Broome County and Monroe County, New York, where most of their children were born:
Sophia, b. 1809 (wife of Webster Stanley)
John P., b. June 3 1812, Broome County, NY
Shipley Amos, b. 1815
Henry A., b. March 16 1822
Jane (married David Evans)
Sally (married Edward Starr)
The family moved to Medina, Ohio in 1828, and later migrated to the Northwest territory. They were the second family to settle in what is now Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1836. The Gallups purchased 170 acres of land from the US along the Fox River where it flows into Lake Winnebago. They built the second cabin in what is now Oshkosh. Chester died in 1849 in Oshkosh. Betsey died in 1856. Both are buried in Riverside Cemetery.
