When Gertrude was a small girl she took passage on a boat bound for America by herself. When she arrived, she lived with her mother and her uncle until she married. Gertrude and Omen settled in St. Paul, MN where the University of Minnesota now stands. She had 4 children and outlived them all, she was over a hundred when she died. Crossing an ocean, learning a new language, burying beloved children and still strong enough to love and laugh.
What a women!
