With other boys of the county, Capt. Moran saw service in the Shenandoah Valley until 1863, when he transferred to field service. He received several wounds in the fierce attacks and defeat of Butler's army at Drewry's Bluff on May 16, 1864, where with the amputation on the field of his left leg above the knee, his active service came to an end for a time.
Upon his recovery he went back info service and In 1865 he was captured and sent as a prisoner of war to Ohio. On his way back to Virginia after the end of hostilities in April of that year he sojourned with friends for a time in Frankfort, Ky., and there he met and wooed the lady who later became his wife - Miss Eleanor H. Nourse. of a well known family of the Blue Grass section.
Capt. Moran la survived by a son. Charles E. Moran, the present clerk of the corporation court of the city and deputy clerk of the circut court of Albemarle county, and three daughters, the Misses Virginia E., Sarepta A., and Edna J. Moran, all of this city. Miss Sarepta Moran is assistant principal of the city high school.
The funeral will be held at the university chapel and Interment will take place In the university cemetery.
