Leon "Buddy" Church, 81, Kansas City, MO, passed away December 17, 2000, at VA Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Chapel, I-435 at Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO; burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or the Wayside Waifs. Buddy was born February 17, 1919, in Glasgow, KY, and lived most of his life in the Kansas City area. Buddy was a graduate of Westport High School and an Air Force veteran of WWII. He was also past owner and operator of Dena's Restaurant at Lake of the Ozarks, Laurie, MO. Buddy was an avid gardener, who loved flowers and animals, and the color red. Buddy was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Dena Lyons; his brother, Pete Church; a sister, Lucille Kelly and brother-in-law, Marshall Kelly. He is survived by his niece, Lois Stratford and husband, Chuck of Leawood, KS; greatniece, Kelly Stratford of Prairie Village, KS; and two stepdaughters, Sherry Plumb and husband, Larry, and Terry Cox and husband, Butch, all of Peculiar, MO.
