Joseph N. Coe, of 720 W. Brooks Street, died tuesday evening at home.
He was born July 16, 1850 in Steubenville, Ohio, son of Philip Liewlyn and Elizabeth Nesbit Coe. He was moved to Illinois/Knox County as a young child. Soon after moving, his mother died, and his father answers the call to war. He made his home with the Delong Family.
He was a Burlington passenger conductor for 35 or 40 years -the last 10 to 12 as a canductor. One year prior to death he farmed, but gave it up due to poor health.
He married Emma Goldquist January 17, 1878. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, one daughter, Mrs. Nelson Ewing, one son, J.L. Coe of Galesburg, a sister, Mrs. W. McDonald of Riverside Ca., and 4 grandchildren.
He was a member of ORC, Burlington Relief, MWA, and the Masonic Lodge.
Burial in Linwood Cemetery, Rev. N.T. Allen and Rev. J.Y. Aitchison officiating.
