Charles Simeon Dean, was born 1805, the fourth son born to William Simeon and Nancy (Bryant) Dean in the Edgefield District of South Carolina. He bought land under the name Charles Dean in Chambers County Alabama. He also had a son named Charles Malachi born 1838. Charles Simeon married Nancy Adams, daughter of Charles and Sarah Adams in 1825 and was given 250 acres of land for "love and good will" as a wedding present from Charles Adams, Nancy's father. Around 1837, Charles Simeon did have at least one reason to leave Edgefield. In the book "Cases at law argued and determined in the court of appeals of South Carolian, at Columbia, December 1835, Pg. 276" Simeon is involved in a court case where a levy was served against some of Simeon's property (e.g., oxen, several slaves, etc.) by the Sheriff's deputy of Edgefield. William H. Moss, Sheriff of Edgefield, executed the levy, via deputy, and it was agreed that the levied items would remain with Simeon and would not be disposed of. Simeon agreed but sold the items to Oliver Moore and John Adams anyway, even after Simeon told them the properties were legally levied. The case ended up with Simeon legally off the hook, with Adams and Moore being held accountable to Sheriff Moss for the sale after having paid Simeon for the levied items. By May of 1837 the case was dismissed and this would have been a good time for Simeon to leave Edgefield County and that is what he did, because he was in Chambers County, Alabama by July 31, 1838, where and when his son Charles Malachi was born. On May 1, 1850 he purchased the SW1/4 of the NE1/4 of township 23N on Range 26E in Chambers County as Charles Dean. Charles Simeon Dean and his wife were the parents of nine children.
