He was visiting daughter Jeannette Meyer (Dowling) Trustdorf and her husband Karl Trustdorf in Charleston when needed to be hospitalized for ongoing problems with uraemic poisoning. During hospitalization, died. He was transported back to New Philadelphia for burial.
