Mary Regina (Jean) Wilkins Turner

Mary Regina (Jean) Wilkins Turner, 71, of Lakehills, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001 at her residence. She was born Feb. 25, 1930 in St. Petersburg, Fla. and was farm raised near Russellville, in the Corinth-Middleton, Ky. area of Logan County. Now the Ben Brown Farm.

She had made her home in Lakehills for the past eight years. Mrs. Turner worked as a teacher under the name of Mary Regina Wilkins Barrow for over 30 years in various states: Kentucky, Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

She was one of the founding board members who began establishing the Lakehills Area Library in 1999. This endeavor was was among her favorite and proudest accomplishments. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the Lakehills United Methodist Church with Pastor Ellen Ely officiating. Inurnment will be in the Wilkins family cemetery in Russellville.

Mrs. Turner is survived by her husband, Luther A. (Archie) Turner; one daughter, Deborah Jean Barrow of San Antonio; one sister, Joanna May Wilkins Shirley of Shepherd, Texas; and one brother, Robert Burr Wilkins Jr. of Russellville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Burr Wilkins Sr. and Anna Regina (Gina) Etheridge Wilkins.

Memorials may be made to the Lakehills Library and Community Association or the Lakehills United Methodist Church. Arrangements were made under the direction of Sunset Northwest Funeral Home in San Antonio.
