Arthur was a farmer. He owned a pretty farm in Jefferson Twp. (Tipton Co.), IN. Arthur was a kind, quiet man. He didn't care for change, so change occurred slowly around him! He put in electricity only after his son, Richard, demanded it! Mae cooked on a wood/coal stove all of her life! Arthur refused to put in plumbing while he was alive. They had hand pumps both inside and outside of the house, washed in large tubs, and used an outhouse. As a child it was fun to visit my Grandma and Grandpa King! Arthur was a general farmer, so besides growing grain and vegetables, he also raised small amounts of pigs, lamb, chickens, cattle, a few horses and a border collie.
After their son, Richard, died, both Arthur's and Mae's health quickly deteriorated. Their ex-daughter-in-law, Carol (Richard's ex-wife) took care of them in Florida (where she & her son, Tommy, were living) until both Arthur & Mae's death.
Arthur, Mae & their son, Richard, are buried on the same lot in the Kempton Cemetery.
