Robert L. Elliott, 60, died Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa following a 22-month battle with cancer. A memorial service was held Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Saint Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale. Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel handled the arrangements.
Bob was born October 25, 1950 in Ames, Iowa. He graduated from Hoover high school in 1969. He attended Drake University, Iowa State University and the University of Wyoming. Bob worked for the phone company for 36 years. He was a proud member of the CWA Local 7102. Bob had resided in Des Moines and Urbandale since 1963. Bob married Margaret Doyle on April 8, 1978.
Bob loved his family dearly. He loved hunting, painting, collecting lanterns, hiking and fishing. He especially loved the time he spent in deer camp with his sons and friends, which he was able to do this month. He enjoyed working with his hands, especially woodworking.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Margaret Doyle Elliott of Urbandale, Iowa; parents, Loren and Alma Elliott of Mesa, Arizona; brothers, Mark of Gallup, New Mexico (Susan) and Jim of Houston, Texas; three children, daughter, Alicia of Des Moines, Iowa and sons, Matthew of West Des Moines, Iowa and Sean of Urbandale, Iowa; his faithful family dog, Roy; his father and mother-in-law, Francis and Joanne Doyle of Urbandale, Iowa; brother-in-law, Kevin (Marianne) of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Katy Raasch and Therese (Ken) Richardson, both of Urbandale, Iowa and Eileen Doyle of Ankeny, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
