After James worked for a number of employers, he started his own company, Valves & Cylinders, Strongsville, Ohio around 1965. James JR. was a member of the Knights of Columbus Catholic fraternity.

James passed away while he and his wife Cec were driving their motorhome, vacationing across the USA.
