Singer, Actress. She is regarded as the "Madonna of Hong Kong." Born Mui Yim Fong, she began her singing career at a very young age and in 1982 she won a singing contest and her career as a pop singer soon took off. Mui recorded several songs including the radio banned, 'Bad Girl,' and won several awards including Best Female Singer, in the 1980s and the Golden Horse in Taiwan and Hong Kong Film Award in 1987 after turning to films. Mui's films include, "Dancing Warrior" (1983), "Mad Mad 83" (1983), "Behind The Yellow Line" (1984), "Last Song In Paris" (1986), "Happy Din Don" (1986), "Trouble Couple" (1987), "Black Dragon" (1989), "The Magic Crane" (1993), "Drunken Fist II" (1994), "Let's Sing Along" (2001). In the 1990s she announced her semi retirement from singing but continued to act and sing. In September 2003, she announced that she was suffering from cervical cancer and was undergoing treatment. Her sister, actress Ann Mui died from the same disease three years earlier. On December 30, 2003, after a 4 month battle with the cancer, she passed away at a hospital in Hong Kong, at the age of 40, where actor and friend Jackie Chan was one of the persons who kept a vigil beside her bed.
