Joseph Carmody Shea was a victim of the Halifax Exposion. He was killed with his wife and their four young children. His mother was also killed in the explosion.

He was the son of Thomas and Catherine Shea.

Joseph married Elizabeth Purcell on 24 July 1924, Halifax and they had four children:

Mary Catherine (1912-1917)
Inez Maud (1913-1917)
Eileen (1915-1917)
Richard Thomas (1916-1917)

At the time of the Explosion the family lived at 1337 Barrington Street, Halifax.
He worked as a trackman for the Canadian Government Railway in Halifax.

Joseph's remains were the only ones identified in his family. He is buried in Mount Olivet.
