Omer H. Heater, age 88 – a lifelong resident of Elwood, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton following a brief illness. He was born January 28, 1923 in Elwood the son of Frank C. and Myrtle E. (McCord) Heater. Omer was a fork truck driver at Guide Lamp Corp. in Anderson for 34 years, and retired in 1982. He also was well known as a TV repairman at Heater's TV Service in Elwood. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Omer married Doris Marie Rumler on November 23, 1946. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Alexandria and was also a member of the U.A.W. Union #663; Quincy Masonic Lodge in Elwood; the Shriner's Club; and the Elwood V.F.W. #5782. Omer was a avid NASCAR fan – especially Dale Earnhardt, Jr.; enjoyed riding motorcycles; enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors; fishing and hunting; and square dancing.

Survivors include: wife of 65 years – Doris M. Heater of Elwood; 4 Children – Larry (Debbie) Heater of Anderson, Ricky (Eva) Heater of Crystal, NV, Tricia Ruben of Fishers, and Harold (Connie) Heater of Elwood; Twin Brother – Jim (Jackie) Heater of Anderson; Sister – Violet Sutton of Kennesaw, GA; 7 Grandchildren – Tonya Blackwell, April Mensick, Ricky Lee Heater, Jr., Ross Planalp, Jerrico Planalp, Thomas Heater, and Jackie Idlewine; several step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Omer was preceded in death by his parents; 2 Sisters – Opal Davis and Dorothy Sanders; and 2 Brothers – Frank Heater and Leon Heater.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday, December 19, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Alexandria with Rev. Cliff Richardson and Rev. Doug Henkelman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood where military graveside honors will be conducted by the U.S. Military and the Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church, prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Alexandria First Baptist Church through the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.copherfeslermay.com.
