Spring Canyon Man Held In Price Jail
Price - Joe Redford, 26, of Spring Canyon, was held today in the Carbon County Jail for the accidental killing of Christopher S. Day, 55, in the Marvish Pool Hall at Standardville at 11:30 p.m. Friday.
A coroner's jury Saturday found that Mr. Day had died as a result of a blow of the fist, feloniously struck by Redford behind the left ear, according to Judge S. W. Sweetring of the Price City Court.
According to witnesses, the two men were arguing about the personal value of the labor union. They had been drinking and the argument resulted in a brief scuffle. The death blow delivered to Mr. Day's ear was the only blow struck in the fight. Mr. Day was rushed to the Standardville Hospital but was dead upon arrival. His body was taken to the Wallace Funeral Home in Price.
Mr. Redford is an employee of the Spring Canyon mine. He is married and has two children.
Services for Mr. Day will be conducted this week. Burial will be in the Castle Dale Cemetery.
He was born March 3, 1887, in Lawrence, Emery County, Utah, son of Edwin S. and Maria Johnson Day. He was a miner and has lived in Spring Canyon for 18 years.
Surviving are his widow, Frances Clement Day and three children, Lawrence, Darlene and Grant; four brothers, Henry Day of Spring Canyon; Junius Day of Castle Dale; Floyd Day of Price, and Harold Day of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Mrs. Inez Fox of Los Angeles and Mrs. Edna Robertson of Reno.
