Aunt Gen attended the Grace Institute in NYC where she was trained in office skills. With these skills she first obtained a job with the phone company. Later, she landed a position with Bloomingdale's Department Store in NYC, where she worked her way up to head operator for the department store.
Genevieve's first marriage was to John Blust, who brought to the marriage a daughter, Elizabeth (Bitsie) Blust Kolb. My aunt Genevieve, I was told, wanted children of her own very badly, but her husband was very social and thought this would interfere with their lives. Elizabeth helped to fill her maternal void and was treated as if my Aunt gave birth to her.
John Blust passed and my aunt then went on to marry Robert Anthony (Bob) Walters on January 19, 1958 at Mt. Carmel Church.
After many wonderful years of working for Bloomingdale's, my aunt retired, and she and her husband Bob moved to Pompano Beach Florida, where my Aunt lived until her death in 1977.
I met my aunt just a couple of times, but just the few times that I was around her, I had a deep admiration of her. She carried herself with such grace and elegance. She was always dressed to the 9's and had a beautiful home filled with beautiful things. What I know most about my Aunt, came from my mother. My mother admired my aunt very much and for good reason. Aunt Genevieve paid the complete bill for my grandmother's, (her sister Anny's) funeral, in 1941.
She was also finacially helpful to her orphaned nieces and nephew after her sister's passing.
God Bless you Aunt Gen!
*I am not sure who was responsible for her final arrangements, but a colossal mistake was made with her memorial plate. Aunt t Genevieve was born in 1907, not 1900 which is permanently memorialized on her resting place.
