LaVerne Tate Ables, 87, of Hixson, Tn. passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011.
She was born in Laager, Tenn., and had lived most of her life in the Chattanooga area.
She was retired from J.C. Penney and Sears.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her son, Gilbert H. "Joe" Birdwell.
Survivors are a sister, Dola C. Sissom; a brother, Harley C. Tate, both of Gruetli Laager, Tenn.; special nieces, Nancy Ables and Bobbie White, both of Hixson, Tenn.; special friends, Betty and Bobby Legg, LuAnne and Tony Reavley and MaKinzie, all of Sale Creek, Tenn., Steven and Lisa Legg, of Dalton.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 5 p.m. today and from 1 until 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Services will be held 3 Monday, December 5, 2011, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Evans officiating.
Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Retirees of J.C. Penney and Sears will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist, North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn.
