Richard F. Spates, well-known retired farmer and lifelong resident of Poolesville, Montgomery county, died Sunday night at the home of his nephew, Walter Butler, near Poolesville, aged 79 years. His death was due to paralysis, with which he was stricken en route in an automobile from Poolesville to his home.
He was the father of Mayor J. Roger Spates, Rockville, Mrs. Annie Shaw, and Webster Spates, Washington; Howard Spates, Bluefield, Va., and Mrs. Frank Bachman, South America.
Funeral at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the chapel in Monocacy Cemetery at Beallsville, where the interment will take place.
