BERNARD ADAMS ELECTROCUTED

Electrician Dies Shortly After Touching 2,300 Voltage Wire.

Bernard Lee Adams, aged 22 years, 942 west Main street, who had been employed by the Madison Light & Power Co., as an electrician during the last two years, was electrocuted at 3:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon while working on a 2,300 volt electric line between this city and Hanover.

Yesterday was the first day Adams had been taken out of town on line work duty, before that time he had served as an assistant to co-workers in the city. The high voltage line on which Adams was working was being changed to the north side of the Hanover road and attached to new poles. Adams was at the top of a pole when one of the charged wires came loose from the bracket and he is said to have reached out to push it away from him. As his hand came in contact with it he was thrown to the ground.

Working with him, were Peter L. Hoagland, Edward Sieferman and Gale and Edgar Smith. Two of the men cut the wire on either side of him but the current had already passed thru his system. His co-workers ran to him and offered first aid assistance. Fortunately the Haigh ambulance which was returning to this city from a funeral, appeared on the scene and rushed the victim to the King's Daughters' hospital where he died forty-five minutes later.

Surviving Adams, besides his wife, Mrs. Mildred Dalhoover Adams, are his father, Ira B. Adams, Pleasant Ridge, and one brother, Raymond Adams, of this city.

He came to this city from Trimble county five years ago. He had been rooming with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Handlon, 342 west Main street. He had lived on a farm in Trimble county previous to his coming in this city to live. The young man was a member of the First Baptist church of this city, and was highly respected by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at the Handlon residence Sunday afternoon at two o'clock in charge of Rev. C.C. Smith.
