Many Tributes To Miss Wood

"Teacher Who Died Suddenly Thursday Buried Yesterday Afternoon"

A large blanket of flowers covered the grave of Miss Pearle Wood, prominent Florence school teacher, as her body was laid to rest under gray skies yesterday afternoon in Mount Hope cemetery. The tributes came from friends in every walk of life - from fellow teachers, acquaintances in business and homes of the city and from her pupils at Park school.

Miss Wood, a teacher in the school system here for the past 14 years, died unexpectedly at her residence on West Palmetto street late Thursday night. She was prominent in teaching circles here and had been in apparent good health up until the time of her death.

She is survived by her parents, Dr. M.N. Wood and Mrs. Ida Hendrix Wood, formerly of Ball Ground, Ga., who are now making their home with a daughter, Mrs. W.P. Davis of Florence.

In addition to her mother and father she is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. T.B. Carroll of Valdosta, Ga.; Mrs. R.N. Pharr of Orange, N.J.; Mrs. W.P. Davis of Florence; M.E. Wood of Baxley, Ga.; H.L. Wood of Savannah, Ga.; P.N. Wood, of Hartsville and W.H. Wood, of Memphis Tenn.

Services yesterday were held at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Waller R. Alexander in charge.
