Much of his life was spent in central Illinois, where his father set up a practice as a country doctor. On July 5, 1958, he married the love of his life, Janice Faye Stobbs of Alton, Illinois. Together they raised four sons, C. Edward Brown, IV, JD of St. Louis, MO; Daniel J. Brown, JD of suburban St. Louis; William Dale Brown of Spanish Lake, MO; Gregory Francis Brown of Chicago.
A strong believer in education, he pushed his sons to find their passions in life and pursue them to the fullest.
As age took its toll upon Charlie, he took residence at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cape Girardeau. Sadly, he developed pneumonia and turn a quick turn for the worse. He died on November 20, 1997.
In addition to his wife and sons, he left two grandsons, Steven and William Brown of Chicago. In his honor, Steven grew to become a respected Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.
His beloved brothers, Gerald of Penfield, IL and James of St. Louis, MO, and sisters, Ann Elizabeth Grothe of St. Petersburg, FL and Mary Judith Harper of Griffin, GA have lost their standard bearer.
A mass of Christian burial was held at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Spanish Lake, MO. He has been laid to rest at the US Military Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
