Ingvar R. Olson, nicknamed "Swede", of Maple Avenue, Higganum, Middlesex County, Connecticut, died at Middlesex Hospital, age 70. He was the son of the late Eric H. and Nannie (Anderson) Olson. He was survived by his wife, Jane (Gustafson) Olson, and two sons: Andrew I. Olson and Matthew R. Olson; one daughter, Mrs. John C. (Ivy) Pecoraro; one brother, S. Lawrence Olson, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother in Sweden, the Rev. Evert M. Olson.
Swede was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 123rd Ordnance Maint. Battalion, which was awarded a Unit Plaque for Meritorious Service. The superior services performed by this maintenance battalion was a material factor in the successful operation of the 1st Armored Div. during the drive to the Anzio Beach head and the advance north of Rome.
Swede was a self-employed building contractor in Middlesex County for over 30 years.
