Forrest Lee Asbell, 88, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at Mt. Vernon. He was born Feb. 17, 1923, in Aldrich to George and Mary Asbell. He served as a marine in World War II. He served from July 14, 1944 to July 24, 1946. He was discharged as a corporal. He served in the Pacific Arena from Nov. 13, 1944 to July 10, 1946. He participated in action at Iwo Jima and the occupation of Japan He worked at Brown Derby in Springfield for several years.

He was preceded in death by one son, Forrest Jefferson; one brother, Andy Asbell; and two sisters, Georgia Hinkle and Willa Mendoca.

Survivors include sons, Paul Layne, Rogersville, Mark Randall and Darin MacDonald, both of Springfield, Anthony Wallace, California; one sister, Rose Mary Clemons;three grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at Bona Church of Christ, under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
