He was a member of the Vigilant Fire Company in Great Neck, and retired as Captain of the Nassau County Rangers. After retirement, he did extensive work on his family history and the town of Belfast, New York, which included St. Patrick's Church and the Holy Cross Cemetery. John wrote three books: Nangle Costello Nagle and then some..., The Real Irish in America, and My Nangle Family History, which can be found on the internet under nanglemedieval.com.
He was a WWII and Korean Navy War Veteran, serving aboard the Destroyer USS Taussig 746 in the Pacific and the Flag Ship Mount Olympus AGC8 in the Mediterranean.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Michael John Nangle; a brother Frederick; a niece, Judy Eggers; two nephews, Bill and Bob Nangle.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, June 13, 2011 at 9:30am at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church.

Reposing at Austin F. Knowles, Inc. Funeral Home, 128 Main Street, Port Washington Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial Monday 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church. Entombment Nassau Knolls Cemetery.
