Betty Lou Elam, 85, of rural Lincoln, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at South Hampton Place, Columbia, Mo. She was born on Aug. 25, 1926, at Greenville, Texas, the daughter of Thomas Lincoln and Hedwig "Hattie" (Mallinckrodt) Hews.

She was raised and educated in Boonville and Kansas City, Mo. On March 24, 1942, in the Republic of Mexico, she was married to Clarence Arthur Elam, who preceded her in death on July 24, 2011.

In 1961, she moved from Chapel Hill, Mo., to Sedalia, and then in 1986 to her present home at Herb's Beach. She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting and making jewelry.

She is survived by two daughters, Cathy S. Lemler and her husband Chriss of Harrisonville, and Linda "Cricket" Sanders and her husband Keith of Cole Camp; four sons, Clarence A. Elam, Jr. and his wife Karen of Oak Grove, Ron L. Elam and his wife Sylvia of Lincoln, Bill L. Elam and his wife Angie of Harrisonville, and David B. Elam and his wife Peggy Sue of Gladstone; 15 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp, with Rev. Steve Graff officiating. Burial will be in Brushy Cemetery, rural Lincoln.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Lakeview Heights Fire Department in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Elam, Casey Elam, Troy Lemler, Corey Lemler, Clayton Sanders and Billy Smith.
