As a young woman, Mary and her sister, Mabel, worked at Ponds in Clinton, Connecticut; later, Mary worked with her husband, Russ, at the Westbrook Post Office. Mary was a very active member of the First Congregational Church of Westbrook, teaching Sunday School; she served as the Superintendent of Sunday School, Camp Counselor, Delegate to the State, and Deacon of the Church. She was a familiar figure at the annual Church Fair on the Green, as one of the "Fudge Ladies". She was also a member of Eastern Star. She and her husband, Russ, were a wonderful and positive example in Westbrook for countless young people, year after year.
