Silvia Ann Montgomery-Grill
June 21, 1959 — October 23, 2011
Silvia Ann Montgomery was born on Fathers' Day, June 21, 1959, in Oroville to Robert and Nancy Johnson. She lived a wonderful and active life and died on Oct. 23 in Tehachapi of complications from Multiple Sclerosis. She was 51 years old.
Silvia grew up in Colusa, graduating from high school in 1977. She then attended Chico State where she met and married Steve Montgomery. They moved to Tehachapi and both worked for the Department of Corrections. Some years later, Steve was diagnosed with cancer and Silvia watched and cared over his every need until his passing in 1991. In 1996 she married Tom Grill. The year 2005 saw Silvia retiring from the California Correctional Institution and spending her remaining days devoted to God and her husband, Tom.
Silvia enjoyed traveling, whether it be visiting Europe with family or being dropped off by float plane to fish Canada with Tom, but she will be remembered most for her love of cats, her kind and gentle manner and for the way she let the light of Christ shine through for all to see as an inspiration and uplifiting spirit to all who came into contact with her. She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Silvia is preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Johnson, and husband Steve Montgomery. She leaves behind her husband Tom and father Robert Johnson of Tehachapi; brother Phillip Johnson, his wife, Michelle, and daughter, Nicole of Fresno; best friend Mickey Crank and numerous others she became friends with during her life.
Memorial services were held at Country Oaks Baptist Church on Oct. 28. Internment was at Eastside Cemetery, and Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc. handled the arrangements.
