Carol Jean Knoeferl, 76, of Rock Island, died Saturday, November 19, 2011 at her home. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, Nov. 29, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Memorial visitation will be from 3-6 PM Monday, Nov. 28, with a Christian Wake Service at 3:00 PM at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Inurnment will be private. Memorials may be made in care of the family.
Carol was born on December 10, 1934 in Rock Island, the daughter of Peter and Julia Yawoich DeSmet. She married Kenneth Joseph Knoeferl, a U.S. Marine, in Quantico, VA in 1953. He died while serving his country in Vietnam in 1969.
Carol was a long time member of the Rock Island Moose Lodge #190 and of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. She loved her children and adored her grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her children; Debra (Gary) Johnson, Geneva, IL, Donna (Mark) Knoeferl, Davenport, IA, Stephen (Judy) Knoeferl, Lake Havasue, AZ, Joel (Linda) Knoeferl, Rock Island, Denise (Todd) Jacks, Moline, and Dorine (Bob) Knoeferl, Rock Island; grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Melissa; great-grandchild, Donny; brothers, Peter (Mary) DeSmet, Illinois City, Tony (Jan) DeSmet, Lake Havasue, AZ, and Donald (Nancy) DeSmet, Kansas City, KS; sister, Sharon (Sam) Dusenberry, Rock Island; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
