He was 13 yrs old, when he landed in Philadelphia, PA on 10/5/1737. He had experienced the death of his brother, the dangerous journey from Germany to America, and now he was sent out to find new land to farm. He traveled SW through the Shenandoah Valley, through most of VA, through the Staunton River gap of the Blue Ridge Mountains, then crossing the Dan River, then on to the Yadkin and points south. He was reputed to be the first white man to settle west of the Catawba River. He found the Country inhabited by Indians, with whom he got along usually in friendly terms. His first location was on Leeper's Creek, on land which he later obtained from the government, 05/15/1754. After locating his land and building his shanty cabin in 1744, he set out to find a wife. On the way to PA, he met Peter Hoyle heading south from Maryland to NC. He took a fancy to their daughter, Miss Elizabeth Katherina 'Katrina' Hoyle, as she rode up on horseback. He directed them to his home near Gastonia, NC, told them to occupy it and upon his return he would help them locate for a place of their own. He later returned and they were married by 1754. He gave up his home to his inlaws and moved across the creek, with his new wife. Boston served in the NC Militia, in Captain Samuel Corbin's Company.
In the years that followed, Boston and Katrina Bess raised a large family. Boston engaged in farming and land speculation.
He is said to be buried with his wife, in a private graveyard, on his farm near the residence of the late Luther Lineberger. No stone marks his grave.
