Marjorie was the daughter of Arthur E. and Bertha Ashley Maynard of Middletown, Connecticut. She had one sister, Ruth Vienna, 20 years older than Marjorie; and four older brothers: Clifford Arthur, Harry Ashley, Russell Irving, and Kenneth Leslie. Marjorie graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Middletown, in June, 1937. She married Alf Harold Gustafson of Portland, Connecticut on December 23, 1939. Alf was a son of Charles A. and Amelia C. Gustafson of Portland, CT. Marge and Al lived at 20 Wall Street in Middletown and had three daughters, Karlynn Joyce, Gail Marie and Sharon Lee Gustafson. In 1953 the family moved to Westbrook, on the Connecticut shoreline. Marge enjoyed and was close to her family, which came to include many nieces and nephews, three granddaughters, Kristi Lynn Parker, Eden Marie Smith and Misti Smith Russell, and seven great-grandchildren. Marge loved flowers and plants, her home, boating with her husband, family get-togethers, reading, being outdoors; she was a Yankee baseball fan and a good neighbor.
Marjorie's ashes remained at what had been her home in Westbrook until interment September 29, 2006 with her husband in the State Veteran's Cemetery, Middletown, Connecticut. This cemetery is located quite near her original home on Wall Street, and is just across the Connecticut River from her husband's original home on Riverview Street in Portland. The day before interment, a small portion of ashes from each were strewn at the Bell 8 buoy at the mouth of the Connecticut River to commemorate their final voyage together into eternity.
