Wilbur Fiske Ashley was the son of Rev. Desmond G. and Sophronia Greene Ashley. He married Jane Maude Maynard, the daughter of David Otis and Jane Bump Maynard. Wilbur and Maude (nearly always called "Maude") had four children: Olive Maude, Waldo Francis, Wilbur Desmond and Arthur Leon Ashley. For a relatively short period of time they lived in Ghent, Columbia County, New York, near Chatham, where Wilbur's father was born; but Connecticut was their home for most of Wilbur's life.
