THE OBITUARY IN THE GONZALES, TEXAS NEWSPAPER:

Last rites were held Friday afternoon, July 23, at 3 o'clock for Jackson Josiah Tyree with a large circle of sorrowing friends and relatives in attendance. A brief service was held at the home of his brother, R.G. Tyree, in the Floyd's Chapel Community and also at the Floyd's Chapel Methodist Church after which interment was made in the cemetery there.

Mr. Tyree passed away at his home in Baytown on Wednesday evening, July 21st. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Minnie Zumwalt Tyree, two sons, Jesse Otho Tyree of Wharton and Zelmon Jackson Tyree of Baytown and one grandchild, Jean Tyree. Three brothers and three sisters also survive, Robert Gleghorn Tyree of Gonzales, John Henry Tyree of Moore and James Daniel Tyree of Baytown, Mrs. Sarah Margaret Tyree Lester of Gonzales, Mrs. Louisa Jane Tyree Cude Winters of Freeport and Mrs. Martha Ursula Tyree Thompson of Smiley.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Johnson, pastor of the Floyd's Chapel Church. Two hymns were prettily rendered, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder."

The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Ralph Thompson of Smiley, James Burnham Tyree of Baytown, Clarence Tyree of Beaumont, Felton Lester of Gonzales, Staton Lester of Gonzales and William Tyree of Baytown.

Almong the numerous and beautiful floral offering that graced the last resting place were a beautiful casket spray from the family, a pretty spray from the brothers and sisters, one from the nephews, one from Humble Oil Refinery and one from the Texas Sulphur Co.

Mr. Tyree was born on October 16, 1875 in Gonzales Co. Texas, a son of the late John Burnham Tyree and Melissa Eleanor Gleghorn Tyree. He was reared in Gonzales in the Floyd's Chapel community where he married Miss Jessie Minnie Zumwalt in 1898. To this union, two sons were born, Jesse Otho and Zelmon Jackson Tyree. In 1904 the family left Gonzales and moved to La Salle county. From there they moved to Uvalde and then to Harris county, where they were one of the first settlers of the site of what is now known as Baytown. In Baytown, Mr. Tyree farmed rice for a number of years. He later connected with the Humble Oil Refining Co. where he was gateman for 16 years. In three more years, he would have been pensioned.
