My Mother, Edith Lucille Byrd, was born in Glenwood, Ga. She never knew her Father, Leon Byrd, because he died in an automobile accident on Oct. 23rd, 1919. Her mother, while pregnant with Edith, and her three siblings were all in the car that evening when the driver, a young man named Peter Morrison, due to road conditions, left the road and hit a swale. Leon was thrown through the windshield which severed his Carotid Artery. He bled to death in the arms of my Grandmother Ruby. The Family moved in with Ruby's parents, James and Fannie Rivers and led a fairly normal life. My GM remarried and all the children eventually married and moved on. Edith and her sister, Doris, moved to Miami-Dade Co., Fl. where they met their husbands and raised their families. After the deaths of their husband's, Doris and Edith lived together in Deland, Fl. until their deaths, Doris in 1995 and Edith in 1999.
