CUMBERLAND — E. Harland Upole Jr., 79, of Cumberland, formerly of Grantsville, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at his home.
He was born April 5, 1932 in Mount Savage.
Harland loved his children and grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Harland worked for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources as the Regional Supervisor in Fire Control and for the US Forestry Service as a Smoke Jumper. He was a member of the Mt. Lodge 099 AF & AM, Frostburg. The Cumberland Consistory Scottish Rite and The National Smoke Jumpers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie C. (Saunders) Upole, Cumberland; one daughter, Harley Ann Ryan and husband Don, Grantsville, and their children, Marissa and Megan Ryan; two sons, Randall Upole and wife Alice, LaVale, and their children, Samantha and Sabrina Upole, Joseph Upole and wife Shawna, Grantsville, and their child, Kylie Upole.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Wanda Lester officiating.
Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery.
