Hazel Vance Bennett, 96, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2011 at Balfour Retirement Community in Louisville, Colorado with her family at her side. She was born May 23, 1915 in Keytesville, Missouri, the daughter of William Roy and Lilah May Finnell. Hazel graduated from Keytesville High School and completed two years of teacher's training. She was an elementary school teacher in a Chariton County country school and later taught in Pierce, Nebraska. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the fellowship committee, and acted as President of the Women's Society. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter BE, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Forty & Eight organization. She also volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician for Pierce County. Hazel married her husband, Albert Cash Bennett, on December 25, 1939, to whom she was married 39 years before his death. She was also preceded in death by her son Randy Edwin, brothers, William Don Finnell and Roy Joe Finnell, and sisters, Cassie Virginia Cox, Ruth Eleanor Hutchinson, and Dorothy Lou Rogers. Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Bennett Dart, son-in-law, J Dart, and grandson, Justin Bennett Dart, of LaFayette, Colorado; sister, Doris Sue Silva of Kansas City, Missouri; three nephews, six nieces, five great nephews, and nine great nieces. The Celebration of Life will be held at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury, Missouri on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11 :00 a.m. Grave side services will be held at the Asbury Cemetery of Keytesville, Missouri.
