Martha (Smith) Amsler Pence, 89, of West Lafayette died Wednesday November 22, 2006, at Rose Walk Village. Born November 17, 1917, in West Lafayette to the late Paul and Helen (Faust) Smith she has been a lifelong resident of the area and wintered in Naples FL. She married Floyd Amsler in 1939 in W. Lafayette and he preceded her on May 27, 1993, she then married Merville "Bud" Pence on March 30, 1998 in Naples FL and he survives.
She was a 1935 graduate of West Lafayette High School, and a 1939 graduate of Purdue University. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and active in PMO while at Purdue. She was a member of Tri Kappa, Current Topic Club, Secretary of the Purdue Alumni Association, and on the board of Volunteer Bureau. She enjoyed travel, music, and playing bridge. She sang in church choirs, and the Bach Chorale.
Surviving are three sons, Floyd "Stephen" (Sandra) Amsler of Louisville KY, David (Shirley) Amsler of Fishers, and Kevin (Paige) Amsler of Wayzata MN. Also surviving are two stepsons, Dr. Gary (Mary) Pence, and Greg (companion Kathy) Pence both of CA.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to a 2 PM memorial service Saturday December 2, 2006, at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Two brothers, Kendall Smith and Paul Smith have preceded her in death. Surviving are 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-grandchildren.
