Daughter of the late Willie and Rose Doster Fleming, she was the widow of Philip Roscoe Whitley who died on March 24, 1999. She was a graduate of Aurora High School and was an insurance agent with Fidelity Insurance Company of Newport News, VA, and Morris Insurance of Washington, NC. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Whitley, four brothers and seven sisters. She was survived by her son, Royce Whitley; sister, Mary Fleming Osher; and an extended family of relatives. Her graveside service was held on November 12, 2011, with The Rev. Ray Webb officiating.
