Virgil Adam Magner, age 73, of Glidden, Iowa died at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll on July 30, 1998, following a long illness. Virgil wasa retired farmer. He was the son of William and Lottie (Schulte) Magner. As a young boy Virgil contracted Polio and overcame it, and he attended school at Auburn, Iowa. He began farming in Truro, Iowa, before moving to Oregon in the early 1950's. He returned to Iowa and farmed at Minburn and later at Coon Rapids. He resided north of Glidden for 20 years prior to his death. Over the years he enjoyed farming and took a great deal of pride in his dairy farming and the work he had done. At the age of 73 Virgil still wanted to go back to work.
He married Glennis Eileen Lemmon on February 14, 1951.
Surviving are three sons: Gerry Magner and his wife, Connie of Perry, Iowa, Terry Magner and his wife, Linda of Glidden, and Larry Magner and his wife, Donna of Carroll; a daugther, Elaine Allen of Dysart, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Magner of Lake City, Iowa. A sister, Wilma, (Mrs. Floyd Wines) of Washington died in 1993.
