Actress. She received notoriety as an American actress during the “Hollywood Golden Era.” She debuted in the 1931 pre-code film, “Local Boy Makes Good” with Joe E. Brown. She is best recognized for her role of “Mary Helton” in the 1931 Marx Brothers' classic comedy, “Monkey Business.” She appeared in thirty-seven films including the 1932 films “Ride Him Cowboy” starring John Wayne, “The Heart of New York,” and “The Kid from Spain.” In 1933 she appeared “The Three Musketeers,” starring John Wayne, Francis X. Bushman, Jr., and Lon Chaney, Jr. In 1931 she signed a two-year contract with Paramount Pictures. In 1932 the Western Association of Motion Picture Advertisers recognized Hall as their “Baby Star”. After retiring from acting, she married in 1933, had two children, and owned an avocado farm. In 1953 she appeared in an uncredited role in “How to Marry a Millionaire” starring Marilyn Monroe. Born Ruth Gloria Blasco Ibanez, her Spanish-American family moved to Tampa when she was a child. She was the niece of Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, author of “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.”
