William Coleman Deatherage was born on a farm near Waverly, Ill., on January 26, 1882, and passed away at the age of 82 years, two months and 22 days on Sunday, April 12, 1964, at a Lakewood hospital.
As a young man Willie went to the Indian Territory, now known as Oklahoma, where he took up farming. It was at Vinita, Okla., where he met Miss Lulu Davis, who on March 20, 1913 became his wife. To this union one child was born.
In 1930, Mr. Deatherage owned and operated his own barber shop in Munden, Kan. He worked at this trade until his retirement.
Mr. Deatherage has been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 62 years and of the O.E.S. for 53 years. He was converted and baptized into the First Missionary Baptist church of Bellflower in 1947 and has lived a consistent Christian life.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Lulu; a daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and George Kinz; three grandchildren, Kenneth, Connie and Kathy Kinz all of Bellflower, Cal.; three sisters, Mrs. Cloah Bivin of Palmyra, Ill.; Mrs. Minnie Mulch of Munden, Kan.; Mrs. H.E. Smith of Compton, Cal., other relatives and friends.
Five brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 16, 1964, at 11 a.m. in Whites Funeral Home in Bellflower. Masonic Lodge of Bellflower No. 523 had charge of service with Brother Roy Reed pastor of Bellflower First Missionary Baptist church and Brother Dewey Caves officiating. Interment was in Forest Lawn cemetery in Cypress, Cal.
