September 1920 he married Ada Daisy Riley of Birminham, England. She is the daughter of Cornelius Riley and Sarah Ann Ginder.
He died a tragic death on a peaceful hillside, at the Mathison Place on Dobbins Creek. The sheep-shearing sheds were located up on the hill and Fred was up there with the horses when they bolted and ran down the hill to the creek, dragging him to his death.
