Alfred Miller owned a candy store as a young man. Later he became a carpenter and finally specialized in spiral stairways. When his carpentry was not in demand he went to work for the Holt Tractor Co. in Peoria, which later became the Caterpillar Tractor Co. He worked off and on with this Company for a number of years.
He loved to hunt & fish, and spent many hours fishing on the Illinois River that ran through Peoria.
He died of tuberculosis at the age of 48.
