Former Florentine Dies Dr. Kyle Emerson Haselden, Editor of "The Christian Century" and a former Florentine died Wednesday at his home in Evanston, Ill. Dr. Haselden, one of the nations most distinguished minister was a native of Latta and spent the early part of his life in Florence where he graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1930. He was the son of the late H B and Mary Allen Haselden. He is the author of three books, "The Racial Problem in Christian Perspective.", The Urgency of Preaching.", and The Death as a Myth." He was also contributor of various journals. He first joined the staff of "The Christian Century" as a managing editor, after holding pastorates at such churches as First Baptist Church, Minneapolis, MN: Baptist Temple, Rochester, NY and First Baptist Church of Charleston, WV. Four years ago he became the editor of "The Christian Century." He received a B.A. degree from Furman University in Greenville in 1943 and a B.D Degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity School in Rochester, NY in 1937.

HASELDEN II, Kyle E. left us Sunday, June 19, 2011. He was born in Yonkers, New York on September 25, 1939 to Kyle E. and Elizabeth Lee Haselden. Kyle graduated from Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University. He married Carol Seaberg on June 5, 1961. Kyle lived in Bay City, Michigan for 28 years and retired as the District Manager for Michigan Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Kyle and Carol moved to Bellingham after spending over five years traveling the country in their RV. He served in leadership roles in many community organizations. Kyle was extremely proud of his children, Kerstin (Jon) Felske and Elizabeth (John) Monahan and his two favorite grandchildren, Kathryn and Eric Monahan. He leaves his sister Alice Lane; brother Tom Haselden and other family and friends across the country. He fought a great fight against Pancreatic cancer and met everything on his bucket list. Services will be Tuesday, June 21st at 2:00 p.m. at Garden Street United Methodist Church, 1326 Garden St. Gathering afterwards will be at the Village at Cordata Clubhouse, 4848 Village Dr. at 4:00 p.m. Please share your memories with the family on-line at sigsfuneralservices.com In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Hospice of Whatcom County, 2800 Douglas AV, Bellingham, WA 98225; the Lustgarten Foundation, 1111 Stewart AV, Bethpage, NY 11714 or the Whatcom Chapter of the Washington Waterfowlers Association Scholarship Fund, c/o of John Monahan, 3211 Cedar Court, Bellingham, WA 98226.
