ELSIE MABEL MUNYON

Elsie Mabel Munyon was born on December 28, 1899, the daughter of Lensford L. Ellis ADAMS and his wife Sarah Agnes BONNER at Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin.

When she was eight years of age she was placed in a foster home in Lockridge Iowa, Jefferson County. There she was baptised and confirmed in the Luthern Church.

On April 18, 1953 she was united in marriage to William Henry MUNYON. This happy marriage was brought to an end when Mr. Munyon passed away on July 27, 1957.

Mrs. Munyon continued to live alone in her home at 405 North Grove until she was taken to the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs where she died March 9, 1960.

Aunt Mabel was my great Aunt. She and her 2 brothers were said to be abandoned by their mother Sarah.(Decendants of Jerimiah Adams) Their dad Lensford L. Adams brought the children to the Homefinders orphanage in Ottumwa, Iowa. Only my grandfather Malen Lensford Adams was adopted by the Sellwood family. Mabel was in more than 8 different foster homes as a child. The home in Lockridge was with the DUTWEILLER family. If anybody has any more info to give to me please contact me. She was married to a HANFORD and they divorced. 1st marriage She died from cancer. Thanks!

Elsie was my g. aunt; sister of my grandfather Malen Lensford Adams who was adopted by the Sellwood family. Her parents were "Lensford Adams and Sarah Agnes Bonner". (Clayton County Iowa) Her mother abandoned she and her 2 brothers. Her father brought her and sibblings to Ottumwa and had them placed in the Homefinders Home for orphans.

Her brother Charles was sent back to McGregor Iowa; her brother Malen was adopted; and she was placed in several foster homes, one being the home of Dutweiler family of Lockridge, Jefferson County Iowa. She was baptised into the Luthern Church at Lockridge. She was placed in the Institution For Feeble Minded Children (now called Glenwood) & later worked there as a nurse, helping others.

Her first marriage was to a ? Hanford (Glenwood)and second marriage was to William Munyon in 1957. I don't know if she had any children. Maybe somebody can give me a clue. She was my mother Ollie Sellwood Lanigan's favorite Aunt.

Pictured also is her Grandfather Lennsford Ellis Adams.
