Son of John and Katie Schmid. Spouse: Thelma Schmid. He received both a Bachelors and a Masters degree from the University of Missouri. He began his 34 year teaching career at Mirabile, Mo. and went from there to Hamilton, Mo. he then came to Keytesville where he taught Vocational Agriculture for 24 years. He coached many teams which ranked high in state and national contests and for 24 consecutive years the Keytesville Chapter won first place in lamb exhibits. Following his retirement from teaching, he was a seed and fertilizer inspector for the University of Missouri. A charter member and past president of the Keytesville Lions Club, Mr. Schmid was the first Chariton County resident to donate his eyes to the Lions Club Eye Bank. He served as a member of Keytesville City Council and was secretary/treasurer of the Dalton-Brunswick Drainage District. He was a member of the Masonic Order and for many years taught the mens class of the Christian Church.
