Walter W. Whitaker, Sr. died of pneumonia on April 18, 1976 while on a Caribbean Cruise at St. Michael, Barbados Island, West Indies. Mr. Whitaker was born at Parker, Kansas on October 19, 1895, the son of Joseph and Minnie Cease Whitaker. He moved to Colorado Springs where he received his education. He came to Wyoming in 1906 and in 1916 he homesteaded south of Douglas. In 1939 he bought the present Whitaker Ranch on LaBonte Creek where he resided until his death. Mr. Whitaker was married to Ruth Furnam of Marsland, Nebraska at Douglas on May 8, 1924. Mr. Whitaker was a World War I veteran and was active in community and state affairs. He is survived by his widow, Ruth of Douglas; one son, Walter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Gene (Jan) Hudson and Mrs. Jess (Eleanor) Rodgers, both of Casper; twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.
