Carl G. Schuman
Carl G. Schuman, 88, died July 19, 2004, at Franklin United Methodist Community. He was a resident of Franklin.
He was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Dayton, Ohio. His parents were Jacob and Susanna (Steberl) Schuman. He married Eileen C. (Lowary) Schuman on Jan. 17, 1946, in Springfield, Ohio. She survives. Other survivors include a sister, Catherine E. Garrett of Springfield, Ohio; two nieces, Shirley Bellew of South Vienna, Ohio, and Mary Harrison of Kings Mill, Ohio; and five nephews, Lowell R. Lowary of Greenwood, Richard C. Lowary of Centerville, Ohio, and Carl E., David E. and Robert D. Garrett, all of Springfield, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Schuman.
He was a 1934 graduate of Springfield High School in Springfield, Ohio.
He was employed by Navistar in Springfield, Ohio, as an assembler from 1966 to 1980. He was previously employed by Wade Optical in Springfield, Ohio, as an optician from 1948 to 1966.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Springfield, Ohio. He was also a member of Ex-POW Club in Springfield, Ohio, Dayton Amateur Radio Association and Clark County Amateur Radio Association.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a first lieutenant and receiving the Bronze Star. He was also a prisoner of war in Europe.
A graveside service will be conducted today at Somerford Township Cemetery in Summerford, Ohio. Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin is handling arrangements.
