Benton Addison Rivers was born in 1903 in Glenwood, Ga. to James Allen Rivers, Sr. and Frances "Fannie" McDowell Rivers. He had four sisters, Ruby, Maudie, Louise and Lillian and three brothers,Clifford, Willie and James, Jr. He was brought up in a Christian home with a loving family. He met the love of his life, Lizzie Mae Davis, in the late 1920's. They soon married and in 1929, they found out they were expecting their first baby. They could not have been happier, they would soon be a complete family! On May 25th, 1930 in Brunswick, Glynn Co., Ga., things went terribly wrong for this Rivers Family. Lizzie and her baby died during childbirth leaving Benton lost, scared and alone! The day that was to be his happiest was a day that he never recovered from. Benton took his own life on Wednesday, November 29th, 1933. They are all buried in Red Bluff Cemetery, Treutlen Co., Ga.
