Will Hirst the sixth and last child of Jacob Hirst, a Cincinnati fireman, and Julia Singer, who came to Cincinnati from England as a child. Will was born in the West End of Cincinnati grew up in Northside. He married Mabel Dunn 15 Jun 1898. Will and Mabel were the first missionaries sponsored by God’s Bible School of Cincinnati, and spent 12 years in South Africa and Rhodesia. Five of their eight children were born in Africa, and one is buried there. After returning from Africa, Will graduated from Lane Seminary, then spent a year as a chaplain for the YMCA in France during WW I. Will died of colon cancer in 1936, and his ashes were buried in Mabel's casket in 1944.
